Visconti Castle of Locarno
Analysis, strategic vision and proposal for tourist and cultural positioning
The Visconti Castle in Locarno is the main monument of the city, symbolizing the rich historical past of the town. However, the current architectural and cultural enhancement is rather limited, with access and spaces that are not very usable and content that is not structured organically. This prevents the Castle from expressing its full cultural and tourist potential at the cantonal and national levels. Indeed, to date, the absence of a clear strategic vision for the Visconti Castle and its surrounding context limits its ability to emerge and position itself as a tourist attraction.
Therefore, this project, thanks to the contribution of the Elia Frapolli Consulting and Tourism team and in collaboration with the architect and museographer Nicola Castelletti, aims to provide tools and expertise in the tourism and museographic fields to outline new strategic guidelines and define an ideal tourist, cultural, and museum positioning for the Visconti Castle complex (including Palazzo Casorella, Casa Rusca, and the nearby Rivellino).
The project is developed in synergy with the architectural insights conducted by the firms Sanchez Garcia Architetti SAGL and Architetti Krausbeck Santagostino Margarido SAGL, winners of the competition for the restoration and enhancement of the complex (Project PIVOT).
